Naked mole-rat B-roll
Understanding Animal Research makes clips of research animals available to the media. If you require material, please contact office@uar.org.uk. Naked mole-rats are studied because they are very unusual for mammals. They are cold-blooded, live for much longer (30+ years) than the 3-4 years you would expect for a mammal of this size. Their immune system is very good at preventing cancer. They also live in large social groups with one dominant breeding queen. All other members of the group provide for the queen and her young.
In our previous video about naked mole-rats we hear from Dr Chris Faulkes from Queen Mary, London University. Chris had a colony of molerats in London and showed them to me during our interview: https://youtu.be/88iqQ7GkLT0
